Service Projects for the 2011-2012 School Year
Salvatation Army Canned Food Drive:
During October 3rd-14th, SCPE will be donating canned foods to the Salvation Army. During these 2 weeks, NEHS members will be responsible for creating posters around the school to promote the drive, making commercials on the SCPE Student News, and counting all the canned goods daily from each grade level.
Holiday Cards and Book Drive:
Students will host a book drive from November 28th to December 9th for children in need of books. The whole school is donating books for the less fortunate, and the NEHS students will be advertising and faciliating in the collection of the books. NEHS students are also hand delivering holiday cards made by the entire school to the Estero Life Care Center. On December 16th, the students will visit the citizens of the care center and sing Christmas carols.
Mentor Reading:
During the 3rd Quarter of school, NEHS students will be "buddy" reading with 2nd and 3rd grade students. To prepare for FCAT, these students will spend time mentoring and reading with a younger student two times a week. The NEHS students will get to practice their advanced reading skills as well as help develop the reading and comprehension skills of their younger peers.
