San Carlos Park Elementary School, Center for the Arts is proud to announce that our school has become an official chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society for the 2011- 2012 academic year.  It is an honor to become one of the chapters of the nation's largest student recognition program.  San Carlos Park will join other elementary schools nation-wide with the distinction of being named a chapter of the National Elementary Honor Society.

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) is a school-based program recognizing outstanding elementary students and engaging them in the meaningful development of leadership skills and personal understanding of the value of service. This Honor Society is more than just honor roll. NEHS gives high-achieving students an opportunity to have an understanding of what it means to be a responsible student and citizen in our world today. In addition, NEHS provides information and resources to enhance the culture of achievement in the whole school, not merely the culture of a select few. Students at San Carlos Park Elementary will be involved in providing service to the school and community while learning valuable leadership. This organization will also promote Scholarship, Responsibility, Leadership, and Service.  Our goal for the NEHS at San Carlos Park is to motivate students to apply high standards of excellence in all areas of life.

In order to be eligible for the NEHS, students must be in the 4th or 5th grades.

According to the NEHS Constitution, Article 8, Section 1, candidates must meet or exceed the national minimum standard for scholarship, which include all A's and B's.  Students must also meet disciplinary standards which include all “S’s” in Personal Development.  The last criteria required to be eligible for NEHS is to complete a community service project each quarter.  Each student must complete a service project prior to being inducted into this society.  These projects will encourage citizenship and civic responsibility to both the school and the community.

In order to be eligible for induction in NEHS students must meet all of the following criteria:

1.         Earn all A's and B's

2.         Earn all “S’s” for Personal Development

3.         Earn “S’s” in all special area classes

4.         Complete community service projects (1 per quarter)

We look forward to beginning this honorary program here at SCPE, as we strive for academic excellence and student achievement.
